Like other businesses, the Featherbed Railroad is asking you to vote for us in this program that Chase Bank and Living Social have put together. The competition's tough, but we also really appreciate your consideration.
To vote visit the website for Mission: Small Business and search for Featherbed Railroad in the search field. Then just click "vote." That's it - and thank you so much for your consideration.
You have to be a Facebook user to accomplish this and we sincerely appreciate your telling your Facebook friends and family about our little piece of the world and this competition.
Our vision is to put more people to work in Lake County which has an unemployment rate of 19%. The funds that this provides, assuming we are awarded them, will go directly to projects that provide employment opportunities for more positive, upbeat local people who are having a tough time finding work in Lake County.
Update: we've reached over 250 votes. At this point it's up to the judges and we will know some time in September what the results of their decisions are. Thank you one and all who voted.
As part of this vision we hope to turn a Southern Pacific caboose on the property into a 10th guest room. This room would feature an outdoor soaking tub and private outdoor area so that guests could bring their dogs and let them relax as well.
The big goal would be to construct a brand new guest room based on plans from a company that makes replica cabooses. The reason for this is that we would like to craft a room that was accessible to people with abilities of all kinds. This 11th guest room would be 100% accessible to those who spend their days in a wheel chair or might utilize other assistive tools in their daily lives. Of course it would be such that everybody would be able to enjoy this room and we have some great ideas for this room, but it would certainly be an inclusive experience.
Having two additional guest rooms and a coffee kiosk means something more. It also means more jobs for more people here in Lake County, a beautiful spot that suffers from a 19% unemployment rate. We have been so fortunate to be able to bring such upbeat, wonderful and caring people into our fold and we'd like to add more. We want to purchase more goods from local farmers and craftspeople and put more of our neighbors to work.
Peggy and I sincerely appreciate your consideration and, hopefully, your vote. The deadline for voting is the end of this month so your expediency is also appreciated. While we normally don't make such odd requests, we thank you for your indulgence in any efforts you can in the pursuit of our qualifying for this program.
Thank you for your consideration and please contact us if you have any questions!
Here's an example of one of the company's replica cabooses.
